Project: Dental Office Ultra Violet Lighting Systems
Location: Rochester, New York
Since the onset of COVID-19, UV-C has become one of the most in-demand technologies around the world. Both the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ASHRAE now include UV-C as a recommended mitigation step to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.1
Almost overnight, UV-C systems have transformed from a HVAC efficiency option to a health and safety necessity.
Equipment Description: Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) has been used for decades in medical facilities to kill bacteria, mold and viruses. Science has yet to find a microorganism that is resistant to UVGI.
Guckian Energy Systems (GES) worked with a local dentists office to design and install ultra violet lighting systems in the air handling systems. The UV lighting systems have been designed to kill 99% of airborne viruses. GES designed the lighting systems, provided the lights, controls and accessories. Our technician installed the systems.
Design Considerations:
UV-C inactivates and destroys microorganisms.
Humans are the source of drug resistant microorganisms.
Airborne transmission of infectious agents may be more prevalent than previously believed.
Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation has been proven to be effective for 70+ years.
System costs are often less than 1% of the power to operate the AC system.
HVAC UV-C improves airflow, heat transfer efficiency and indoor air quality.
